Best Practices

This page presents a collection of great work that I have been doing it through my journey in the teaching practice, which I called it my best practices. I would present artifacts and reflections to show how my teaching associated with the teaching competency areas, my PDP, and my teaching philosophy.

Professionalism and understanding

Planning for learning

Year2 | Creating Lesson materials

Planning for learning is one of the most essentials competencies that each teacher should acquire. Teaching lessons, creating teaching materials need careful planning. Similarly, implementing the teaching materials for the students in school need also careful planning. I was aware that I had to plan considering the various elements that affect the process, such as, resources, materials, time, activities, student’s interest, and learners-centered approach. However, I had also to make useful interactions activities that are based on different learning skills, such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. After implementing it, I saw that it worked well with the students, and I noticed that the students were very engaged to use these materials.

Year2 | Stroy sack (Ginger Breadman)

Creating a story sack is a journey, that helped me to learn many different things and improve my professional development. Before I could be able to make the story sack, I had to extend my knowledge of story sack making and different areas and elements in it. In the light of lack of time that was provided for us, I think that creating story sack was challenging, but it helped in developing my personal organization and time management. I believe that before we start a task, we need to educate our self about it, so we will be able to cover all the areas. Planning the way I will do the story sack is essential because I cannot carry out the process without planning the areas. I will include, materials I will use, specifying time and resources.  As a future teacher, I believe that I need to learn about the group I will be teaching and share my experiences with others.

Implementing and managing learning

Year3| A midsummer night dream (Literacy devices lesson)

I have presented many presentations during the B.ED program, and now, I realize the improvement that these tasks changed and developed on my personality as a teacher. In year1 and 2, I was uncomfortable about being under the spot, and I was afraid of all that eyes, which were looking at me. However, in my year 3, I had to do a drama and act out a story from Shakespeare’s collection and teaching a literacy devices lesson. Planning was crucial, but my main focus was on implementing and managing to learn including language and delivery. Looking back at the lesson, I think that I did my best in providing various activities for peer work and group work and managing their work. I was aware of not modeling the activities in the appropriate way, but by analyzing the students work, it is obvious that they were able to complete the task. For me, the most significant aspect was using technology in managing the learning and acting out the story in an appropriate language and delivery.

Monitoring assessment and evaluation

Year3 | Story telling ( Walking through the jungle )

Monitoring assessment and evaluation is a fundamental competency area that I need to focus on and develop. After implementing ice breaker activities and the storytelling, we prepared some activities to check student’s comprehension. During the activities, I analyzed that I needed to monitor and scaffold students work. Some of the activities needed monitoring and scaffolding, so students can achieve the task.  I believe that implementing activities that are beyond the learner’s capacity with providing scaffolding; help the learners to boost their skills. Moreover, we really had fun on that day, and it was one of the successful storytellings sessions.

Best Lesson Plans

Planning for learning is one of the crucial elements of an effective lesson. planning effective lesson plans and creating useful activities makes the lesson easier to understand and enjoyable. Since students in grade five learn through hands-on activities, I planned all my lesson according to those methods. As I mentioned in my PDP, creating different activities that target different learning patterns made my lessons successful.Planning for this lesson was focused to depend on real materials in presenting the new vocabulary and to use the material to the rest of the class. thus, using real materials in the classroom engaged the learners and helped them to link the information with real life and to improve their understanding. Furthermore, most of the students learned the vocabulary in a short time and they were able to use them in the speaking and in the activities.
